Julia Theresa Derouen Picard, a resident of Adeline, was called home to her Lord at 4:58 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Franklin Foundation Hospital. She was 87. Julia was born in Hockley, Harris County, Texas, and was one of four children born to Rivers Derouen and the former Nellie Wern. She married Walter Picard and the two were blessed with nine children.

She was lovingly known as Maw Maw to just about everyone who knew her, probably due to her love of cooking and feeding others. A wonderful cook, Julia served up countless meals that she poured her heart and soul into. Not only did she teach many others how to cook, but she also cooked for her church for over 30 years. Though she didn't beat around the bush and would let you know what was on her mind, she did it with a loving heart, going as far as caring for many others during times of need. Some of her favorite pastimes included playing bingo, working puzzles, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have known her.

Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her children, Judy Clement, Patricia Boudreaux, Edna Smith and her husband Daniel, Cheryl Higgins, Alice Bourque and her husband Ronald, Michael Picard and his wife Melanie, Russell "Rut" Picard and his wife Cindy, and Walter "CoCo" Picard Jr. and his wife Doddie; son-in-law, Johnny Smith; her brother, Wesley Derouen; her sister, Noemie "Lee" Brown; 26 grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Anthony Picard Sr.; her daughter, Rose Mary "Granny" Smith; her sister, Mary Ellis; three sons-in-law, Daniel Clement, David Boudreaux, and Johnny Higgins Sr.; and her parents, Rivers Derouen and Nellie Wern Derouen Orgeron.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 29, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Victory Tabernacle Church with Rev. Jessie "Bull" Higgins officiating. She will be laid to rest in Victory Tabernacle Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Mitchell Smith, Jason Higgins, Daniel Clement, Michael Picard Jr., Ryan Picard, and Walter "Bubba" Picard III. Honorary pallbearers will be Toddy Boudreaux, John Higgins Jr., and Joseph "Joe" Clement. Visiting hours will be held Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
