Kooiker, Mark S. 66 , Minneapolis, passed away on Sept 15, 2020. Born in Cheyenne, WY, on Mar 16, 1954 to Dr. Robert H. and Meinard S. Kooiker. Grew up in Mpls and Jacksonville, IL. Graduate of Jacksonville HS in 1972, graduate of Iowa State University in 1976 with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering. Proud founder of Turning, Inc., with first wife Kris in 1980, working there until retiring in 2010. Mark was a kind-hearted man who was always willing to help people, even if his methods were unusual, and sometimes misunderstood. He volunteered with many organizations including Compatible Technology Inc. (now Bountifield), Simpson Housing Services, Spirit of Hope UMC in Golden Valley and the Baha'i Center in S Mpls. He enjoyed camping and boating with his family. Other hobbies included machining, photography, motorcycling, reading, 'repair work' and learning. He is survived and missed by his older son Mackenzie & wife Merredith & grandson Malcolm, and younger son Kit; his first wife and friend Kris, and close friends Dennis and Oscar and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Cherelle and Pietra, and second wife Joanne Tupy. In typical fashion, Mark donated his earthly remains to the U of M, and gave his house to a family friend. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Mark and others in his family struggled with mental health and addiction issues and the stigmas and shame that went with it. Therefore, his family requests that you channel any memorials to NAMI at nami.org, to help bring mental health out of the shadows. His parting advice is "tell your people often that you love them".
