Eunice O. Hillery, 98, a long-time resident of Ferris, Ill., died at Galesburg, Ill. nursing home on Saturday, Jan. 1.

Eunice was born on July 17, 1906 in Sciota, Ill., the daughter of Ira and Mary Chamblin Derks. She married Forrest Crouch on October 23, 1926. She later married Wesley Stromquist on August 29, 1964, and she then married Leigh Hillery on January 13, 1979. She graduated in 1924 from the Carthage High School. She graduated from Gem City Business College in 1925. She worked at Stark Brothers Nursery in Louisiana. Mo. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Galesburg V.F.W. She also was a cook and manager of the J.J. Grier Restaurant. She was a member of the Ferris Christian Church and the Ferried Ladies Aid.

Survivors include a daughter: Mardelle (husband Wayne) Piotrowski of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons: Phillip (wife Verna) Crouch of Galesburg, and Kenneth (wife Jill) Crouch of Farum, Denmark; one step-son: Donald (wife Laverna) Stromquist of Lynn Center, Ill.; two brothers: Royce (wife Dorothy) Derks of Frankfort, Ill., and Lawrence (wife Mary Lu) Derks of Carthage; and two sisters: Doris Wehner of Independence, and Myldred Broone of Galesburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, two sons, one brother, and three sisters.

Burial will be in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.

Eunice Hillery, born July 17, 1906, in Sciota, Ill., she was the daughter of Ira A. and Mary E. Chamblin Derks. On Oct. 23, 1926, she married Forrest W. Crouch in Oquawka, Ill. He died in 1956. On Aug. 29, 1964, she married Wesley C. Stromquist in Galesburg. He died in 1974. On Jan. 13, 1979, she married Leigh E. Hillery in Ferris. He died in 1988.

Mrs. Hillery first worked for Stark Brothers Nursery in Louisiana, Mo. She worked as a cook and later as manager of J.J. Grier Restaurant, which was located in the former CB&Q Depot.

She and her family moved to Ferris when she was 7 years old and she attended Ferris and Carthage High Schools, graduating in 1924. She was a 1925 graduate of Gem City Business College. While living in Galesburg, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Galesburg Veterans of Foreign Wars. After moving to Ferris in 1968, she was a member of Ferris Christian Church and Ferris Ladies Aid. She also was a member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was an avid quilter and made several quilts and lap robes that she gave away.

Survivors include one daughter, Mardelle Piotrowski of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons, Phillip Crouch of Galesburg and Kenneth Crouch of Farum, Denmark; one stepson, Donald Stromquist of Lynn Center, Ill.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Royce Derks of Frankfort, Ill., and Lawrence Derks of Carthage; and two sisters, Doris Wehner of Independence and Myldred "Mid" Boone of Galesburg.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, one brother and three sisters.

Burial will be in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.
