GALENA, Kan, April 8. Ernest Ervin (Red) Barber, 59 years old, 308 East Seventh street, died at 5 o’clock this morning in St. John’s hospital in Joplin, where he had been a patient since Tuesday. He had been in ill health the last year.

Born March 26, 1895, in Coffeyville, Kan., Mr. Barber attended schools here (sic) [?there?]and served as assistant police chief in Coffeyville before moving to Bartlesville, Okla., where he operated a storage warehouse. He came to the Galena area in 1922 and operated a taxi out of Joplin, later moving to a farm three miles northeast of Galena. He moved to Galena two years ago and operated a feed store on West Seventh street until he became ill. He was a member of the First Baptist church and was a former Sunday school superintendent.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Gertie Barber of the home; daughter, Mrs. W. C. Warren of Coffeyville; a son, Mont Barber of Coffeyville; a sister, Mrs. Ivie Childers of Coffeyville; three brothers, Orin Barber of Coffeyville, Cecil Barber of Noble, Mo and E. Barber of Washington; a granddaughter, Linda Barber of the home; 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral plans are in charge of the Poteet funeral home.

GALENA, an (sic).—Funeral services for Ernest Ervin (Red) Barber, 59 years old, who died Thursday morning in St. John's hospital in Joplin, will be conducted at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Sixth Street Baptist church in Galena, The Rev. Lyle Luton and the Rev. Dow Booe will officiate. Burial will be in Hill Crest cemetery under direction of the Poteet funeral home.

The body will be taken to the home, 308 East Seventh street, at 5 o'clock this afternoon to lie in state until the funeral hour.
