On Tuesday at 12:05 o'clock a.m. occurred the death of one of Boone's highly respected citizens, Z.M. Williams, at the family residence, 607 Sixth Street. Death was due to kidney trouble from which the deceased has been a constant sufferer for several months. Mr. Z.M. Williams was born in Clay County, Indiana, December 17, 1846. He moved to Schuyler county, Illinois, with his parents when a small boy. His father dying in 1851 he went to Missouri with an elder brother in 1856. He came to Webster County, Iowa in 1860. On the breaking out of the civil war he endeavored to enlist at three different times with his older brothers but on account of his age and size he was rejected. During the war he visited his mother in Illinois and while there enlisted in the 3rd Illinois Cavalry in 1864. At the close of the war he returned to Iowa where he has since resided. He came to Boone about four years ago. In 1873 he was united in marriage to Mary J. Humphrey at Ft. Dodge, Iowa. About two years ago he was converted and united with the M.E. church and continued a faithful member to his death, which occurred at 12:05 a.m., January 22, 1901. He leaves a wife, two sons, Fred and Harley, four brothers and two sisters to mourn his departure. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock from his late residence to the First M.E. church. Rev. J.M. Harris the pastor, officiating. Members of the G.A.R. Sons of Veterans and ladies of the W.R.C. attended the funeral in a body. The remains were laid to rest in Linwood cemetery. The Democrat extends its profound sympathy to the family in their bereavement.
