McLEANSBORO — It was "definitely a tragic situation," a school official said of the vehicle wreck which claimed the life of a local teen-ager last week.

Kevin T. Boucher, 17, McLeansboro, died and two other people were injured when the teen's car and a power company service truck collided head-on about 5:09 p.m. Nov. 8 on state Route 142, about 1.2 miles north of McLeansboro, according to Illinois State Police at Carmi.

Boucher was pronounced dead at Hamilton Memorial Hospital following the wreck, police reported.

The teen, driving a 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier, was northbound on Route 142 when the car went into the southbound lane and collided head-on with an Ameren service truck driven by Larry L. Springer II, 28, of Dix.

Boucher was thrown from the car when it went off the northbound side of the road into a ditch, police reported. The Ameren truck went off the southbound side of the road and overturned, the report said.

Springer and a passenger in the truck, Ronald T. Lueking, 60, of Richview, were transported to Hamilton Memorial Hospital with major injuries; Springer and Lueking were wearing their seat belts, police reported.

On the day after the wreck, school counselors and psychologists were available at Hamilton County Junior/Senior High School to any students who wanted to talk about the tragedy, Principal Jeff Fetcho said Friday. Many students, though, simply gathered to talk among themselves, he said.

"I think it was a testament today ... that when (our students) are hurting, we're all hurting," Fetcho said.

Boucher's parents are Kathy and Tim Biggerstaff of McLeansboro and Kevin Boucher of Murphysboro. The teen was a member of Temple Baptist Church and worked as a stock clerk at Tom's Priced Right Foods in McLeansboro
