Marion was born in Brooklyn, NY, the second of five children. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1916 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Psychology, and took graduate studies at Columbia and Cornell universities and the New School for Social Research. She was chairman of the Planned Parenthood League of Short Hills, NJ for 7 years. She was a director of the Wellesley Summer Institute for Social Progress for 20 years. She worked as a free-lance, self-employed writer and researcher in sociology. She was a member of the Author's League of America (1960-1963), and was included in the first and second editions of "Who's Who of American Women." She was one of the co-founders of the American Association of Marriage Counselors (1943-circa 1970), a member of the executive committee of the League for Industrial Democracy of New York City, a member of the Tri-State Council on Family Relations (and its president from 1947-1948), as well as the chairman of finance of the Planned Parenthood Foundation of the State of New Jersey (1939-1942). She co-authored the book "The Family and Democratic Society" (1934) and authored "A New Sex Ethics and Marriage Structure Discussed by Adam and Eve" (1961), as well as many articles, and conducted a study on mothers through the Sociology Department of Vassar College (1940). After moving to Farmington, CT, she was active in the Farmington Historical Society, was involved in forming the National Organization for Women (NOW), and was a leader in its CT branch.
She was married to James C. Luitweiler from 1917 to 1942, and they had two sons together.
