George was the 11th of 12 children of Charles and Anna Burns.
He enlisted in The United States Army and was stationed at Fort Bliss Texas, where he spent the majority of his service in communications. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, George's Company was poised to be sent to Florida for military action.

He was married for 59 years to the love of his life, Carole Crowthers Burns.
They raised two daughters, Christine and Kimberly. They are Grandparents to four grandchildren: Megan, Melissa, Molly and Matthew.
They are Great-Grandparents to Daisy Jane

George worked for AT&T and was involved in the technological aspects of the company. He traveled abroad, installed multiple earth stations in the U.S. and Japan. He worked with COMSAT: Deployment, Test and Transition to Operation of the Intelsat SSTMA System. He was sent to many schools during the course of his time with AT&T. He created classes to teach technicians within AT&T and contracted other various companies to work on assignments along side with AT&T. He had many responsibilities within the company over the years.

He was a dedicated family man with great faith in Christ. As a boy he had given thoughtful consideration to joining the Priesthood.

George loved American history and was quite the history buff. America's battlefields such as Gettysburg and Valley Forge were visited many times throughout his life. He loved America, guns and freedom but, most of all George loved his beautiful, selfless and amazing wife Carole.

His sense of humor was second nature to him…always seeing the joke in every situation.
He was a hard working man and a great provider with a generous heart. His spirit was fearless and he was not one to back down from a fight. He was always ready to defend his family, freedom and what was right. As a boy he had written a letter to the President of the United States asking for his permission to start a Junior Army. He stated in the letter that he was ready to "die fighting for his country."

While growing up in Philadelphia George's large family experienced difficult economic times. At the age of 8 years old George had taken it upon himself to find a job to help meet the needs of his family. He delivered groceries in a wagon to customers, giving half of the money that he had earned during the course of the week to his mother. Those funds were used to feed his family.

In his younger days he was a choir boy and an altar server in The Church. His natural talent for singing was put to much use. The Nun in charge of the boys choir would not allow George to leave the choir after he had gotten older…while others his age had moved on. He would sing for his family, sing sweetly to his sweetheart Carole, and while in the Army he took part in a male vocal harmony group.
He learned to play the piano in his 30's as a tribute to his lovely Mother after her passing.

The last decade of George's life was filled with much suffering. Always in pain…many days were excruciating for him. As the years passed He longed more and more for Heaven, his home. His heart and mind were ready to see his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

George will be forever loved and missed by his family. A void within our hearts until we see him once again in his glorified body in Heaven. We miss you so. Forever proud of the man you were while on earth. All of our love to you in Heaven. XOXOXO
