Son of John and Naomi (Brinsmade) Baldwin. Married Eliza Booth on Oct. 28, 1817 in Stratford, Connecticut. Moved from Connecticut to Auburn, New York, then moved to Columbus in the late 1850s, where they lived on Water Street, between Gay and Long. Eli was employed by Hayden Rolling Mill (pictured during the 1898 flood), possibly because his wife was the sister of Peter Hayden's wife, Alice.

Moved from the North Graveyard to Green Lawn Cemetery in 1872.
