Heidi Jean White Ballard Johnson Dahl, 55, of Astoria, died Monday, July 30, 2007, in Astoria, of a brain aneurysm and massive heart attack, complicated by diabetes.

She was born in Ontario, Calif., Dec. 27, 1951, to Alvin G. and Ruth White. Her mother survives, residing in Waldport. Her father preceded her in death.

Most of her childhood and early adulthood were spent in Orange County, Calif. In 1971, she moved to Astoria.

She married Harold Ballard. They later divorced.

She married Anthony Johnson of Astoria. They later divorced.

She married Michael Dahl in Spokane, Wash., in 2000. He survives, living in Astoria.
Mrs. Dahl was one of the founding members of the Astoria Community Store, now the Astoria Co-operative. She worked for 10 years at the Bumblebee Seafoods cold storage facility, and became the first woman to operate a shrimp cooker?peeler machine in Bumblebee Seafood's history.
She moved to Spokane to work in security for companies under strike. She returned to the fish processing industry and worked in quality control for Astoria Pacific Seafood Company. Later, she worked as a teacher's aide, particularly with severely disabled children, in the Olney School District. She then was custodian for Astoria High School.

For 15 years, she cooked meals for the Loaves and Fishes program at Peace Lutheran Church. She was a cast member of the Astor Street Opry Company's production of "Shanghaied in Astoria," playing several different parts over the years.

Family members said she enjoyed living in the country, gardening, cooking for her family and friends, spending time with her grandchildren, camping, swimming and making people laugh.
