Son of George Duncan (born 1794 SC died 29 Apr 1827, Newberry Co, S.C.) and Sarah Murdock (b. about 1794, Newberry Co, S.C. died 1819, Newberry County S.C.) The story goes that both George and Sarah died young and the two sons of this union Giles Charles and George W. were taken to their grandparents home in Georgia (her parents were William Murdock b March 15, 1758 in Ireland and died after May 1842 in Franklin Co, GA and Mary Rubles).
Giles married first to Sarah Ann Elsberry 20 Feb 1838 in Owen Co., Indiana. She died in 1859. Giles remarried 19 Mar 1865 in Marshall Co., Iowa to Louisa C. Arney. They were the parents of Sarah Ann, Julia, Eliza, John Obediah, James Greene, Nettie, Emma, May, Caroline, and Cora Duncan.

After the death of their grandparents in Georgia, Giles & his brother George William walked from Georgia to Indiana to be with their aunt (sister of their mother) & uncle (brother of their father). In Indiana they in turn married sisters (Elsberry)

"In addition to the children linked below, Charles & his first wife, Sarah Elsberry, had the following children: George H. Duncan b&d 5 Nov 1838, Joseph P. Duncan b&d Apr 1840, Muhuldah Ann Duncan born 14 Aug 1852."

Daughter Mahuldah Ann (or Hulda) married James Ridpath 17jan1878, Boone Co. Ia. He died 6may1937 and is buried Mineral Ridge Cem., Boone Co., Iowa. She died before 1910.

Nettie, dgtr. of Louisa C. Arney, died young - before 1920, married Matthew Thompson 1897, Polk Co.,Ia. and had
(1) Gernie, died before 1910 (2) James E 43447226 (3) Mabel A 87289925 (4) Bessie E, living 1930, unmarried Polk Co., Ia with sister Mabel.
