Published in The Paducah Sun-Democrat, Tuesday, May 18, 1937 - ARLINGTON, Ky., May 18 - Cris Holt, 43, wealthy Carlisle county farmer, was found dead today in the hay loft of a barn on his farm four miles east of here on the Arlington-Mayfield highway. A bullet had pierced his heart.
Relatives confirmed a belief that Holt took his own life because of despondency over ill health. Holt arose at 4 a. m. and left the house, members of his family reported. His body was found in the hay loft at 6 a. m. by Jess Summers, colored farm hand.
The son of Mrs. Hettle Holt and the late T. N. Holt, he was a member of one of the most prominent families in Carlisle county. He had been worried over poor health for several months, relatives said.
Holt and his family formerly resided In Paducah.
Besides his mother, Holt is survived by his widow, Mrs. Montra Holt; a son, Warren Holt, a student at the University of Kentucky; a brother, Galen Holt; and a sister, Mrs. Roy Berry, of Arlington.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed. County Judge C. F. Coll, after an Investigation, said Holt took his own life.
Mr. Holt and his family moved to Paducah from Carlisle county about 10 years ago, but did not remain long, returning to Carlisle.
Mrs. Holt is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Brummett of Paducah.
