Harvie Gordon Luther, 75, of Andrews, died Monday, April 28, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

He was a native of Cherokee County, a member of the Beaver Creek Freewill Baptist Church and a member of the Valley River Rescue Squad in Andrews. He was a farmer and had retired from the Town of Andrews Maintenance Department. He loved his church and family. He was the son of the late Harrison Lee and Effie Luther and was preceded in death by three brothers, Guy Luther, Giles Luther and Gay Luther; and three sisters, Gertrude Luther, Glestie Luther and Gwendolyn Shilvey.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Freeman Luther; one son and his wife Jerry and Tammy Luther of Andrews; one granddaughter, Bethany Luther; three brothers, George Luther of Telford, Tenn., Gaines Luther and Garland Luther both of Andrews; one sister Grace Derreberry of Andrews; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 1, at the Beaver Creek Freewill Baptist Church in Andrews. The Revs. Chris Rumfelt, Paul Ray Morgan and Leonard Mayfield officiated. Graveside services and burial will be held Friday, May 2 at 11 a. m. at Valleytown Cemetery in Andrews. Pallbearers will be Jack Ball, Jeff Green, Michael Ledford, Cecil Hardin, Stanley Gibson and Phillip Gibson. Honorary pallbearers are Junior Gibson, Kenneth Jones, Grady McGaha, Kenneth Morgan, Bill Stiles, Woodrow Hembree, Junior McGaha and Gerald Cooper.

The family will receive friends from 5 p. m. to 7 p. m., Thursday, May 1, at the Beaver Creek Freewill Baptist Church in Andrews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Beaver Creek Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, 853 Beaver Creek Road, Andrews, NC 28901 or to the Special Olympics, Cherokee County Schools, 911 Andrews Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
