Son of William and Susan E. Brockwell, he married Mrs. Anna Jane (Clary) Blankenship on 15 Feb 1866 in Petersburg. On 19 Apr 1861 he enlisted in Petersburg in Co. A, 12th Va. Infantry, CSA. He was taken prisoner at Crampton's Gap on 14 Sep 1862, later returned to his unit, and transferred to C.S. Navy on 1 Apr 1864. He was a merchant at the time of his death from phthisis pulmonalis.
