The death of William Wallace Allerdice, aged 59 years, a former Saratoga Springs postmaster, and a prominent resident of this city for practically his entire life, occurred at 8:30 o'clock this morning at his residence, 185 Circular street, after an illness of ten weeks.

Born in the town of Milton on April 15, 1860, the son of William Allerdice and Esther Miller, Mr. Allerdice came to Saratoga Springs at the age of five years, since which time he had made Saratoga Springs his home.

At the age of nineteen years, Mr. Allerdice entered into the business of dealing in hides, wool and tallow at 32-34 Maple avenue, in which he prospered. Mr. Allerdice had long been interested in the activity of the Republican Party in Saratoga county and several times was chosen committeeman from his district, for some time serving as chairman of the Republican town committee.

In May, 1905, [he was] appointed to board of fire commissioners, in 1910 appointed to Park Commissioner, in 1913 accepted appointment as postmaster of this city. Also in 1910 elected director of the Adirondack Trust company in which capacity he remained until the time of his death. He had also been a trustee of the First Presbyterian church for the past six or eight years.

When a young man Mr. Allerdice was accepted in the Masonic organization and was knighted in Washington Commander, No. 33 Knights Templar on March 12, 1891. He was commander of the organization in 1898. He was also a member of the Shrine.

Mr. Allerdice was married on February 28, 1906 to Cora Jennery, who with three children, Jean, Wallace and Doris Allerdice, survive him. He also leaves a sister, Mr. H. B. Smith of Saratoga Springs, and a brother Joseph Allerdice, of Indianapolis.
