He was born Dec. 19, 1931 of a Ukrainian immigrant family in Lascaster, Minn. He made his career in the Army, serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Initially he was a member of the 101st Airborne Division and later the 5th Special Forces Group. Rising to the rank of sergeant major, he was the recipient of a Bronze Star and Purple Heart, among other awards. After retiring from the Army in 1970, he worked for the federal government until 1995. He and his wife Kaye, formerly clerk to the Laurel City Council, retired from their Maryland City home to Lewes.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Michael Sandul; daughter Pamella Lee; daughter-in-law Tina; son-in-law Ron; and grandchildren Amy, Christina, Alyson, Samantha, Ryan and Gregory.
