Former Head of Refining Company Was Active in Oil Industry

Funeral services for Ben H. Gray, 54, former president of the Princeton Refining company who died at his home here Sunday night, were held at 4 p.m. yesterday at Osborn funeral home. The Rev. Harry Wintermeyer, of St. Mark's Episcopal church, officiated. Burial was in Forest Park cemetery. Gray, who also had held the position of vice-president of the Atlas Pipeline company, died of a heart ailment at his home, 935 Unadilla street. He had been in ill health for quite a while, and retired as president of the Princeton oompany early this year. The company then was purchased by the Calumet. Refining company of Chicago, and is now called the Calumet Refining company. He was vice-president of the Atlas company until 1939, and in 1940 helped to organize the Princeton company. Before joining the staff of the Atlas company, he was associated with the Shreveport-El Dorado Pipeline company. Gray was born March 15, 1893, in Bastrop, Morehouse parish, and came to Shreveport when he was a young man. He was the son of the late Benjamin Howard Gray and Mrs. Sallie Gray. When he first moved to Shreveport, he was employed at the Hearne Dry Goods company for several years. He was active in Masonic circles, and was a member of Caddo lodge number 179 F. and A. M., Shreveport chapter number one, Royal Arch Masons, and Ascension commandery of the Knights Templar number six. Mr. Gray was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal church. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Bessie Ratcliff Gray; two daughters, Jeanne and Betty Gray; two brothers, W. S. Gray and Fred I. Gray, all of Shreveport; four sisters, Mrs. A. N. Sample and Mrs. Thomas E. Beaird, both of Shreveport, Mrs. Thomas A. Parker of De Lisle, Miss., and Mrs. H. B. Carter of Texarkana, Texas. Pallbearers were Floyd R. Hodges, Jr., Hal M. Arthur, Clyde Jordan, W. C. Spooner, Roy Marcum, M. B. Carmody, and J. Stewart Smith.
