Betty J. Borgognoni, 82, of Kincaid died at 9:25 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2007, at Southern Suburban Hospital in Herrin.

Ms Borgognoni was born April 8, 1925 in Kincaid, the daughter of Michael and Ada Alice (Manuel) Burke. She married Frank P. Borgognoni on September 25, 1951 in Pocahontas, Arkansas. They later divorced. Ms Borgognoni was a 1943 graduate of South Fork Community High School in Kincaid. She owned and operated Betty’s Tavern in Kincaid from 1955 to 1987. Ms Borgognoni was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid.

Surviving are one son, William (wife, Gayla) Borgognoni of Kincaid; two step-granddaughters, Tina (husband, Scott) Evans of Murphysboro and Lisa Cruse of Carbondale; four step-great-grandchildren, Logan Evans, Bradley Evans, Courtney Cruse and Kelsey Cruse; one brother, Robert Burke of Joliet; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, John Burke, Patrick Burke, Bernard Burke, Charles Burke, James Burke and Joseph William Burke; two sister, Patricia Grace and Margaret Freeman; and two half-brothers, James Burke and Michael Burke Sr.

Funeral mass was held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid. Father Daniel Willenborg officiated, with burial following at Calvary Cemetery in Pawnee. Masterson Funeral Home, in Kincaid, was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Phillip Burke, Dana Lane, Scott Evans, James Mayer, John Mayer and Robert Christer.
