She is survived by her son, Reg Gupton of Boulder, CO and her granddaughter, Debbie Fitzgerald of Michigan. She is also survived by sisters Edna Gupton Hunt, Willie Gupton LaBoda, Helen Gupton Nicholson, David & Carolyn Hunt (who were always there to help her), and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death her parents, George Clark Gupton and Alma Irene Fambrough Gupton, her daughter, Fredaleen Gupton Fitzgerald; her husband J.C. Gupton, her sisters Corinne Gupton Godsey, Charlie Mae Gupton Hunt, and her brother John (Buck) Gupton.
Mrs. Gupton was born and raised in Cheatham County TN and moved to Detroit after marrying J.C. Gupton in 1934. She worked as a Food Services employee for the Detroit Public Schools for many years before she retired. She remained active, however.
She was an avid reader, always did crossword puzzles and was an excellent Scrabble Player. She often traveled to tournaments with her friends, Mary Matthews and Theresa Maynard, where she won many awards. She was also an accomplished quilter and seamstress, loved to can her own food, and was an excellent cook.
She was a lifelong baseball fan and would often be seen at Detroit Tiger games and at the Nashville Sounds games, driving herself to the games in Nashville until the age of 90. She especially loved her church, Walton Chapel United Church and would drive from her home in Nashville to get there on Sunday whenever she could. Most of all she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 on Friday, April 9th at Cheatham County Funeral Home, 117 Elizabeth St., Ashland City, TN 37015. Funeral services will be held Saturday,, April 10th at 10:00 at the funeral home followed by burial at The Gupton Cemetery. Funeral will be officiated by Pastor Paul Robert Gupton. Following the burial there will be a reception at Walton Chapel United Church in Clarksville. Donations to the church or Family Hospice of Boulder would be appreciated.
