Hubert J. Rutten, 78, of 121 Glenview Drive, Newington, died Monday (March 24) at New Britain General Hospital. He was the widower of Alice (Bjork) Rutten. Born in Hartford, he had lived in Newington for the last 35 years. He retired from the Southern New England Telephone Co. Mr. Rutten had been active in St. Mary's Church and Jefferson House and was a member of the Pioneers Club. He leaves three cousins, Mrs. Annmarie B. Gouin of Wallingford, and Mrs. Patricia K. McNally and Daniel R. Mullen, both of Manchester. He was predeceased by a brother, Ludwig H. Rutten. Funeral service will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., from the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a mass, 11 a.m., in St. Mary's Church, Newington. Burial will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours are Wednesday, 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 310 Collins St., Hartford 06105.

Mrs. Annd Marie (Dietl) Rutten, 70, widow of Hubert Rutten, died Sunday afternoon at her home, 142 Wooster Street, after a long illness. Born in Weiden, Bavaria, Germany, she had lived in Hartford 40 years and was a member of the Rosary Society of Sacred Heart Church. She leaves two sons, Ludwig H. Rutten of Detroit and Hubert J. Rutten of Hartford. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home of Farley & Molloy, 129 Capitol Avenue, with solemn requiem high mass at Sacred Heart Church at 9 o'clock. Burial will be in Mr. St. Benedict Cemetery. A meeting of the Rosary Society will be held Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home of Farley & Molloy for prayers.

His father Hubert is buried in Orsbeck - see notes posted with his brother Ludwig.
