Rockport - William Emmett Nay, 60, died unexpectedly Friday, February 22, 2019 in Gloucester, Mass.

William "Bill" was born on June 25, 1958, in Hartford, Conn. and raised in Norfolk. Bill was the son of the late Robert and Helen (Leonard) Nay. He was a member of Norfolk Fire and Ambulance. He was also a member of the U.S. Army National Guard based in Fort Myers, Fla. and Captain of Rockport Forest Fire Department in Rockport, Mass.

For 20 years, he was head of maintenance at Pima College in Tucson, Arizona. Since 2014, he was a valued employee at Smith Ace Hardware & Lumber in Rockport. Bill could fix, repair, replace, or build just about anything. He took great pride in his work and he was very dedicated to his job. He will be greatly missed by all. He truly was part of the Ace family.

Bill is survived by his partner, Lisa Waring, their pet dog Rocky; sister, Susan Moran; three brothers, Robert and Sue Nay, Brendan and Joan Nay, Andrew and Kay Nay, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, James, Kenneth, Evan and Michael Nay.

Bill loved working outside, going hiking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed cooking for the family and creating his own recipes. He was caring, loving, and always there when one needed help. Bill had a great sense of humor and could always give you a good laugh. His kindness and friendship will be greatly missed.

His Memorial Service will be celebrated in St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Rockport, on Saturday, March 2, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Bill to the Rockport Forest Fire Department, Town Hall, 34 Broadway, Rockport, MA. 01966
