Obituary of Angella Marcella Meek
"...And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love." 1st Corinthians 13:13
Those lucky enough to have known and loved Angella Marcella Lopes Meek, aka "Mimi" and "Angel," will immediately recognize that she was truly the embodiment of enduring love, hope, and faith.

Angella was a long-time resident of Pensacola, Florida, and throughout her childhood, her mother, Mary Mitchell, served as Angella's biggest role model and inspiration. Growing up, Angella, her mother, and brother, Louis, formed a close-knit unit, and Angella's deep devotion to family and faith was given root in the days and years that they spent together. When Mary faced her own battle with cancer, Angella quickly became the glue that held the family together through the toughest of times, and with the love and support of her dear aunt, Genia Goss Reed (John), Angella and Louis persevered and prevailed, with Louis joining the United States Marine Corps and Angella embarking on a lifelong career of public service with the Escambia County Court Administration and Community Corrections program, which ultimately led to her meeting her beloved husband, Darren Lee Meek (01/06/2009), and starting her own family.

In Darren, Angella found not only love, but a kindred spirit whose desire to start a family matched her own, and it was not long before they welcomed their son, Patrick Steven Meek (Dana Lamb Meek). Motherhood was as natural as breathing for Angella, and one would be hard-pressed to name parents devoted as she and Darren. Friends and family were constantly in awe of their commitment to Patrick and their sweet little family unit, all the while supporting a myriad of folks through trials and tribulations and even occasional housing when the need arose. To say Darren and Angella were instrumental in the lives of their friends would be an understatement of the greatest order.

While Darren and Angella were perfectly content in their lives, it was not until the birth of their daughter, Kenzie Danielle Meek, that they felt truly at peace. Kenzie's arrival deepened their love for each other, solidified the family in size, and brought them deeper into their faith. It was also during Kenzie's early years that Angella, who managed family and working mom life with aplomb, began to advance in her career, becoming one of the youngest supervisors in the county. (It should be noted that Angella ultimately became the Director for Community Corrections in Escambia County, FL.) All of this served to make Angella even more grateful for the gift of family and the lives she and Darren had built together.
Angella's life, however, was forever changed when Darren's life ended suddenly in a plane crash. It is hard to imagine the pain she felt and the challenges she faced in raising two children without the one person with whom she had planned and dreamed. But Angella not only survived this tragedy, she seemed to emerge stronger and more determined than ever. Not even a diagnosis of breast cancer a few months later would prevent her from supporting her family and nurturing Kenzie and Patrick into adulthood.

Angella fought cancer in the same manner that she lived life -- focused on love, faith, and hope. When Patrick and his wife became parents of two boys, Elliott and Levi, Angella did not let ANYTHING get in the way of her being their "Mimi." Sleepovers, birthday parties, and sweet snuggles from the boys, along with special family trips and times together, became Angella's fuel in her fight for life.

Ultimately, God had other plans for Angella, and she was called home on June 11, 2021. It should not go unnoticed that the date of her physical passing was also what would have been her husband's (Darren) fifty-fifth birthday. While one could easily say that cancer is the cruelest of thieves, it can never diminish the love, faith, and hope that so defined Angella's life. Her love will endure and grow forever, just as her family -- Patrick, Dana, Levi, Elliott, and Kenzie -- will flourish and give testament to Angella's legacy.

Just as she was a blessing to this world, may her memory be a blessing forever...
