Helsel, Richard E. "Dick" Age 87 of Sparta, passed away Monday, June 14, 2021 at Meadowlark Retirement Village. He was born December 21, 1933 in Algoma Township, MI the son of Ray and Grace (Friske) Helsel. He graduated from Rockford High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Army from 1956-58. Dick worked at the Sparta Foundry for 31 years and was a brick and block layer with his Dad. After his retirement he drove an escort flag car for oversize loads and worked at Pilgrim's Run Golf Course. Surviving are his wife, Judy (Wilson) Helsel whom he married on September 10, 1955; daughters, Joy (Mark) Hoskins, Jan (Charly) Bueche, Debby (Gil) Scheiern; Donna (Jeff) Thorne, Becky (Donnie) Higdon; 18 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 sisters, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Janet and Ruth. The family will greet friends Saturday, June 19 from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am at Maranatha Baptist Church, 12786 Algoma Avenue, Cedar Springs. Pastor Scott Sloan officiating. Interment Algoma Township Cemetery.
