On Sunday June 13, 2021 David Aubrey Doherty of Moss Point, MS was welcomed into his eternal home. David had a strong relationship with God. He prayed every day for his family and friends and trusted God with his life.
David was born to Marshall and Audrey Doherty of Waynesboro, MS on December 16, 1933. He was the eldest of eight children. After graduating from Wayne County High school, David went on to serve in the United States Navy. He married the love of his life in 1959, Adelaide Doherty, and they had two sons, David Doherty JR born in 1959 and Alan Doherty born in 1966. He had a wonderful Career at the International Paper Company in Moss Point, MS where he worked for 28 years. He ran the number five paper machine and served as chief shop steward for many years. If you knew David, he loved to take you back in time to his childhood on the farm in Waynesboro, MS where he often spoke of his family and their two mules Jack and Joe. He would tell us how he was the oldest so his mama needed him to help bathe and tend to the smaller children. He would paint the most vivid picture in your mind with his stories. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, grafting trees and spending time with his family. He was a dedicated employee, loving, devoted, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and just a wonderful, kind man.
David was preceded in death by his parents Marshall and Audrey Doherty of Waynesboro, MS. Loving wife, Adelaide Doherty, Son David Doherty JR, brother Ralph Doherty, Sister Catherine Bishop, sister Barbara (Billy) Holcomb, brother-in-law James Doggett, Nephews Ben Doherty and Neil Stevens.
He is survived by His Son Alan (Donna) Doherty of Moss Point, MS, Grandchildren, Jordan (Charles) Vaughn, Alan Jr (Whitney) Doherty, Kayla (Jesse) Jones, Trey Doherty, and Christian Doherty. Great grandchildren Avery Jones, Lane Jones, Weston Jones and Boone Doherty, Daughter-in-law Jamye Doherty, Brother Robert (Betty) Doherty, Sister Alice Doggett, Brother Bruce (Faye) Doherty and Brother Randy (Sherry) Doherty, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
The visitation for David will be held Thursday June 17, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS. The Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Reverend Ralph Smith officiating. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday June 17, 2021 at New Hope United Methodist Church Located at 177 Old River Rd, Waynesboro MS 39367.
