SOMERS, Evelyn C. (nee Tremblay) (Formerly Burns) - Evelyn C. Burns Somers formerly of Sudbury passed away January 8, 2019 in Windsor, Ontario, one month short of her 91st birthday. Evelyn was the fifth born of fourteen children born in North Bay to Louis and Donalda (Parisien) Tremblay. She married Gerard Burns (predeceased 1974) on September 5, 1950 and settled in Chapleau. Beloved mother to Roger (predeceased), Lise Bilec (Michael), Gail Bittolo (Dennis), grandmother to Tamara, Amber and Jodie and great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren. Evelyn graduated from the Red Cross Nursing program in the 1950's in Chapleau, worked in hospitality services in Sudbury and then worked for Canada Post when she moved to Northwestern Ontario with Gerry and their daughters. She was a member of the White River Legion and as well as being a member of the St. Basil Church Ladies Auxiliary. In 1980, Evelyn married Grant Winston Somers (predeceased) and enjoyed a very happy life with him in Cartier and Sudbury, as well as sharing the joys of Grant's family with her own. Evelyn easily made friends and was a wonderful hostess who welcomed many friends and family to her home, wherever she lived. She will be remembered for her laughter, her culinary skills, her garden of flowers and especially for the love she gave her family. Evelyn will also be sadly missed by her siblings, Lena Moyle (Emerson - deceased), Isabelle Cunningham (Brian), Frank (Nancy), Bernie Watson (Bruce - deceased), Aurelie Double (John) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her siblings Edward, Aldege (Alice - deceased), Leonard (Nan -deceased), Claude, Jeanette (Gabriel - deceased), Raymond (Charlene - deceased) and Donald (Jean). Evelyn's family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the caring staff at the Village of Aspen Lake. Their dedication and compassion to those who are in their care, as well as to their families are very much appreciated. The palliative care team is to be commended for the excellent help to Evelyn and to her family. The honour guard organized by the staff for Evelyn's transport from the building of Aspen Lake was memorable and truly heartfelt. Cremation has taken place and the interment of Evelyn's cremated remains will follow at a later date in Cartier. Arrangements entrusted to MARCOTTE FUNERAL HOME (519-735-2830).
