Lorne Allan Affleck of Osoyoos, B.C. passed away on December 30th, 2008 at 84 years of age. Lorne is survived by his loving wife Opal, his beloved children, son William (Val) Affleck of Surrey BC, stepson Steve Parker of Grande Prairie AB and stepdaughter Ronda Parker of Edmonton AB. He also leaves to cherish his memory, grandchildren, Wendy (Kemper) Klyne of Kamloops, BC, step-granddaughters, Krista Smith/Parker of Tumbler Ridge, BC, and Kimberly Parker of Winnipeg MB, also great grandchildren Abby and Joel Klyne of Kamloops BC, as well as one sister Ruth Duncan of Port Moody BC. Lorne also leaves behind son in-law, Ian Chalmers of Kamloops BC, stepdaughter in-law Sandra Parker of Tumbler Ridge BC, niece Lois (Carl) Schwartz and children Matthew, Marianne and David, also nephew Paul Duncan and children Mark, Shawna and Steven.

He was predeceased by his parents William and Catherine Affleck, brother in-law Douglas Duncan, daughters Lorna Chalmers and Wendy Burns and stepson Duncan Parker.

Born in the farming community of Oyen, Alberta, Lorne worked on various farms in the area during his teenage years. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1941 and served as an Able Leading Seaman, mainly on various corvettes performing escort duties in the North Atlantic. Upon his discharge from the Navy in 1946, he came to Kamloops BC and worked with his father at the Tranquille Farm as a labourer.

In 1948 he started working for Kelly Douglas Wholesale Branch in Kamloops. His career with Kelly Douglas lasted 40 years including 10 years in Kamloops, 9 years in Prince George, including a four year hiatus to work for Bill Mahood in the retail grocery field as
Manager of Queensway Market, then back to the wholesale branch with Kelly Douglas for three years in Nanaimo and 18 years in Pine Point NWT, as manager of the IGA store (owned by Kelly Douglas).

Lorne retired from Kelly Douglas in 1988 with the shutdown of Pine Point Mines and moved to Osoyoos BC, where he loved to garden and became known as the "cucumber man" by the girls at Fernandes Fruitstand. He and Opal enjoyed many trips travelling throughout BC and Alberta and the western states visiting family, friends and sightseeing.

Lorne was known for his wit, humour and charmed everyone he met.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Viewing will be held between 12:00-2:00 PM on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the Kamloops Funeral Home in the Rosewood Room, friends and family welcome.

Memorial Service will take place at 3:00 PM on Thursday January 8th, 2009 in the River Room, Interior Savings Centre, Kamloops BC, with Pastor Mary Widmer officiating.
