Born February 26, 1912 in Hendricks County, he was the son of Arlie G. and Nina (Shanklin) Smith.
He married Helen P. Ottinger on January 18, 1932 in Franklin, In. who passed away on September 24, 1992.
Having been a farmer in Boone, Hendricks, and Marion Counties, he retired in 1990.
He was a member of the Boone and Hendricks County Farm Bureaus.
He is survived by a son Jack Smith; three daughters, Beverly Ferris, Doris Shoemaker, and Linda Cope; two brothers Cecil and Darrell Smith; two sisters, Faye Shirley and Thelma Bennington; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, fourteen step-great-grandchildren; and two great, great-step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry L. Smith; three grandchildren, Kenneth Dale Ferris, Jeffery Scott Wilhoite, and Lucinda Lynn Smith; six brothers, Ivan Dwight, Herschel Leo, Glenn Lavern, Arlie Jr., Harold Morris, and Jarrell Thomas Smith; three sisters, Mary Edith, Mary Lucille, and Marion Louise Smith who died in infancy.
Funeral services will be Sunday, August 20, 1995 at Flanner and Buchanan Mortuary in Zionsville with Rev. Mark Thacker officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
