HOWARD'S OBITUARY
U.S. Veteran
Howard Leon Griffin, age 80, of Richmond, Indiana, went to be with the Lord peacefully Saturday, June 19th, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born September 12th, 1940, to Elmer and Gladys Griffin, one of eleven children, including seven brothers and three sisters.
He was a lifelong resident of Wayne County. He honorably served his country alongside his seven brothers for 25 years. At the age of 50, he was called to serve in Desert Storm. Howard was a hard worker all his life, working 30 years at Alcoa before he retired. Howard spent many hours volunteering through the VA, as well as delivering meals on wheels and newspapers. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 65, where he enjoyed playing bingo. For several years, he was a member of the Honor Guard. He also enjoyed bowling where he was on many different leagues over the years. Howard enjoyed spending time with his family sharing stories from his lifetime and watching reruns of Law & Order.
Survivors include his eldest daughter: Pandora Dorry, of Richmond, Indiana; youngest daughter: Frances (Dave) Boussum, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandkids: Amber (Mark) Buchs, of Webster, Indiana, Dustin Griffin-Chaplin, of Richmond, Indiana, Natalie Boussum, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Mercedes (Bradley) Harrison, of Richmond, Indiana, and Lilli Himebaugh, of New Paris, Ohio; great grandkids: Jacob and Thomas Buchs and Bronson and Brinleigh Harrison. Also Grand daughters Sabrina and Mariah Luebbe.
He was preceded in death by his parents;wife; Mildred (Millie) Griffin brothers: Bob, Bill, Jim, Benny Earl, John,Wilbur and Walter; and sisters: Alice Reeves, Mary Hampton and Betty Hampton.
Funeral services will be held at Community Family Funeral Home on Monday, June 28, 2021, at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Brian Richmond officiating. Family and friends may visit the funeral home Monday from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Earlham Cemetery with military rites provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
