This was an error on the part of the census taker, as he did not live with his parents at the time.
During the Civil War he enlisted first in 1861 for a 3 month term of service with Company A, 2nd Connecticut. He then re-enlisted with Company B, 14th Connecticut Volunteers. His final rank was Sergeant. He was severely wounded in the arm at the Battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia, in Dec 1862, and was granted an invalid's pension.
In 1870, widowed, he lived in Hartford, Connecticut with 3 daughters. He was called a "scroll sawyer."
After the death of his first wife, he married 2) Jennie S. ....... (1840 - ) about 1871.
In 1880 he lived in Bristol, Connecticut with his second wife. He worked in a clock factory.
In 1900 and 1910 he and his wife lived in New Haven, Connecticut. He was a carpenter/woodworker at a hardware company.
