Mary met Irving at The Perisan Ballroom in Chicago. Her group of friends were always at one of the Ballrooms dancing. It was very safe in those days as someone in their group always had an auto and when she wanted to return home, there was always a friend going that way.
She said she was so fortunate to live in that era in the Chicago area as all the Big name Bands played and she got to dance to them all.
Mary and her husband did not have children and enjoyed each others company very much. They had a good life in Chicago. They moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1977 when Irving began having health problems. They later moved to Florida, where he died in at a V A Hospital
