Jennie (Hall) Lyon was the wife of Champlain Lyon and daughter of Thomas and Susan Hall of San Francisco. Her parents were British immigrants who arrived in California during the early days of the Gold Rush. Their daughter "Jane" (Jennie) was 2 months old in the 1852 California Census of San Francisco. Jane was 9 years old in the 1860 census, which is consistent with a birth year of 1852. As an adult, she seems to have fudged her age somewhat.

Jennie and Champlain Lyon are listed in the 1870 census of San Francisco with no children; they may have been recently married. The 1880 census of San Francisco includes the following household: "Champion" Lyon (46), Jennie (25), Daisey (9), Bessie (5), Eva (6 months), and "Eriza" Hall (sister-in-law, 16). "Eriza" was Jennie's younger sister Arezia.

Champlain Lyon died intestate in San Jose on Nov. 20, 1889, per probate records. His widow Jennie F. Lyon served as the administrator of the estate. In the 1900 census, Jennie Lyon (listed as age 40 but probably 48) was back in San Francisco with her youngest daughter, Eva (age 19).

San Jose Mercury, Nov. 16, 1909. "LYON —In San Jose, November 15, 1909, Mrs. Jennie Lyon, mother of Eva and the late Bessie Lyon and Mrs. M. J. Gates and sister of Mrs. A. L. Kilpatrick and A. and L. L. Hall, a native of San Francisco, Cal. ... Interment Oak Hill."
