James Marion Scott was born in 1866, in Crawford County, IL, to parents John Keith Scott and Margaret J. Pasley Scott. He was the first born of 10 children and was raised in a farming family. His growing up years he spent in Crawford and Jasper County, IL.
James Marion married Nancy Jane Allen Oct. 2, 1889 in Toledo, Cumberland County, IL.
According to the 1900 census, they lived in St. Marie, Jasper County, IL, and all four of their children were born there. Children were:
John Charles Scott (1890-1947) William T. Scott (1891-1984)
Clara Mae Scott (1893-1972) Edgar Andy Scott (1899-1941)

1910 Census, James Marion was 42 years old and he and his family were living in Craig, OK, farming.
The 1920 census shows James and Nancy living in Walnut Twp, Butler, KS, and two grandchildren living with them: Rachel 4, and Marion, 2.
The 1920 censuses record James Marion Scott's brothers, Robert E. Scott, John J. Scott, Daniel P. Scott and Wm. Frank Scott, also living in Butler County KS. All the brothers worked in the oil fields.
James Marion Scott died from bronchial pneumonia in Augusta, Butler County, KS, in 1924, and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery. Grave marked by Odd Fellows memorial stone.

James M. Scott Dead
James M. Scott, 58 years, died at his home, 1115 Ada, at 2 o'clock this morning after a serious illness of two weeks. He was suffering from pneumonia.
Mr. Scott is survived by his widow, three sons, John of Chautauua; William and Edward of Augusta; and one daughter, Mrs. Clara Mae Foust of Witchita. Surviving him also are four brothers, three sisters, and his father J.K. Scott of Illinois. Mr.Scott is a member of the local I.O.O.F. This order will be in charge of his funeral services which will be held at the Dunsford Undertaking Parlors, Monday. At the request of Mr. Scott himself, the funeral sermon will be preached by a pastor of Wichita, a friend of the family.
