His obituary was published in the December 17, 1879 edition of the Warrenton Clipper. He was listed as a trustee of the Amden Academy in 1850. The 1858 tax digest indicates that he owned 600 acres of land and 28 slaves. By reading the 1860 census, their children are believed to be John (b.1840), Beverly (b.1842), Elizabeth (b.1845), Francis (b.1847), Robert (b.1849), Joana (b.1851), Alexander (b.1853), Sylva E. (b.1855), and Thomas (b.1858). The 1870 census indicates three additional children, Savanah (b.1848), Emerson (b.1847) and James (b. 1859). The 1850 census listed Robert N. (b. 1849), Eliza L. (b.1845), Francis W. (b. 1847), William C. (b. 1835), Leokya (b.1836), Henry P. (b.1838), John B. (b.1840), Beverly C. (b.1841) and Martha A. (b.1843). Some children could have been recorded differently between the two censuses. William B. Barksdale was the son of William Barksdale and Mary Byrom (or Byram). His grand-parents were Hannah Ford & Joseph Barksdale, son of Collier & Sarah Barksdale (b: abt 1715). Other accounts indicate a list of his 8 sons and seven daughters as: Charlie, W.
