Doris Ann (Dillard) Bonham, age 84, a lifelong Tushka and Atoka County, OK resident, was born on Tuesday, July 6, 1937, to William Sam and Virgie Mae (Loudermilk) Dillard, at Roswell, NM. Doris passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at her home in Tushka, OK. She attended Tushka High School in the graduating class of 1956, where she played basketball, her team won State in 1953. She had a very unique shot, a backstep shot. She was recruited by the Oklahoma Redhead Women's Basketball Team, she declined and married instead. She received her CNA license from Atoka High School. Doris was a seamstress for Blue Bell/Wranglers, nutritionist through the OSU Extension Agency, known as Expanded Food and Nutrition Program.
She married Marvin Chester Bonham on Sunday, January 1st, 1961 at Atoka, OK. They celebrated 32 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1993. Doris was a member of Tushka First Baptist Church. She served over the condolence committee, volunteered in church camp and cooked for Atoka/Coal Baptist Association for many years. Doris enjoyed sewing, cooking, camping, fishing, being involved in all church activities and loved visiting with her family and friends, her home was always open to all and she would make sure all left full, whether it was your stomach or loads of Biblical based wisdom. Our Mom loved the Good Lord, she loved her family and friends with all her heart. She loved her church and her community and we cannot leave out the game of basketball.
Doris is survived by her children, Diana White and husband Chat of Lane, OK, Connie Marie Henry of Lane, OK, Doris Arlene Smith and husband Jimmy of Lane, OK, Marvin Brad Bonham of the home in Tushka, OK; grandchildren, Samantha Watson and husband Richard of Lane, OK, Lindsay Roode and husband Chris of Durant, OK, Ronnie Henry and wife Vicki of Lane, OK, Melissa Sullivan of Calera, OK, Gregory Smith and wife Tabitha of Stringtown, OK, J'Shawna Hayes and husband Rejond II of Moore, OK, Jasmine Smith of Stringtown, OK, Gabriel Smith of Durant, OK, Ariel Smith of Durant, OK; great grandchildren, Patrick, Damon, Mason, McKenzi, and Madilyn Watson, Elijah, Joshua and Rebekah Roode of Durant, OK, Riley, Allie and Eli Henry, Landon and Jaxson Sullivan, D.J. McConnell, Rejond III and Cameron Hayes; brother in law, George Bicknell of Tushka, OK; sister in law, Wanda Bonham of Harmony, OK; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, William Sam and Virgie Mae (Loudermilk) Dillard; husband, Chester Bonham; granddaughter, Erika White; brothers, Joe Dillard, Ulus Dillard, Lester Dillard; sister, Ilene Bicknell; nieces and nephews, Ophelia and Bill Miller, Sam Dillard, Joann Maxey, Wayne Bicknell.
