He was born July 15, 1885 in Lexington, Missouri. He was a dentist, practicing in Scandia from 1907 until his retirement in 1976.
Dr. Ahrens was a member of the Amana Church, a charter member of the Scandia Lions Club, and a 67-year member of the Scandia Masonic Lodge. He served six years on the board of directors of Bethany College, Lindsborg and had been active in flood control and soil conservation on local, state and national levels.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Janette Shellhammer of Denver and Mrs. Ruth Perry of Scandia; a sister, Mrs. Lucille Ward of Belleville; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Edward Porter Ahrens was the son of Edward William Henry Ahrens and Fanny Ella Porter.
In 1894, he with his family moved to Belleville where he continued with his schooling. He later attended Western Dental College in Kansas City and Chicago College of Dental Surgery, Chicago, Illinois, where he graduated in 1907. The previous year he had practiced in Courtland. Upon graduating he opened his practice in the same office for 69 years, until his retirement December 1, 1976.
Dr. Ahrens was united in marriage to Cora Alice Armstrong of Orillia Ontario on October 11, 1910 at Belleville. To this union were born two daughters.
He was an active member of the Amana Lutheran Church in Scandia until the time of his death. He was a ruling elder in the Scandia Presbyterian church when it dissolved in 1941.
He served on the Scandia City Council.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Cora and a brother Henry.
