ABERNATHY, Neda Joy Wilson, 79, passed away Monday, July 19, 2021 in Prattville, Alabama surrounded by her family.
Neda Joy retired from the U.S. Postal Service and owned her own gift and flower shop in Ontario, California for several years before retiring to Montgomery, Alabama with her husband, Wayne, of 54 years. Neda Joy was the youngest and last living of 7 children born to Jason and Nettie Wilson. She loved music & had a gorgeous voice. Neda Joy was very compassionate and would help anyone in need. When she would say "make yourself at home", which she said very often, she meant it. Neda Joy loved the Lord and placed her faith in Him daily. Neda Joy attended the United Methodist Church in Eclectic, Alabama. She was a member of the Eastern Star. Neda Joy will be missed by her family and all those whose lives she touched.
The family will receive friends, Friday, July 23, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Gassett Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Troglen officiating. Burial will follow in Union Methodist Cemetery in Eclectic, Alabama.
She is survived by her children, Tammy Renee (Joe) McDowell, Kenneth Wayde (Andrea) Abernathy, Dawn Heather (Martin) Valore; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Wayne Abernathy; son, Rayme Wayne Abernathy.
Pallbearers will be her son, Kenneth Abernathy, and her grandsons, Jason Abernathy, Matthew King, Alan King, Jacob Gilliland, and Tyler Abernathy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Montgomery Cancer Center, 4145 Carmichael Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36106.
