John Dilworth Burton, son of Frank and Hannah Carpenter Burton, was born near Cisne, March 15th, 1879. He died Sunday, August 7th, at the Anna hospital. He was 76.

Funeral services were held Wednesday from Pleasant Grove Christian church. Mr. Burton lived his entire life in Bedford township, where he was twice elected as township supervisor.

He united with the Pleasant Grove Christian church at the age of 16 under the ministry of Andrew Snow, where he remained a faithful member the remainder of his life.

He was married to Elsie Viola Harmon May 18th, 1899. To this union seven children were born. He was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Murphy; one brother, Charles; a granddaughter and three great-grandsons.

Surviving are his widow; the children; Gerald and Evan, of Fairfield; Ray of Akron, Ohio; Frank of Geff; Thelma, wife of Ford Harris, of near Fairfield; and Loren and Quentin, both of Akron, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; two brothers, George, of Cisne, and Albert, of Middleton; and sisters, Eva Barringer, of Geff, and Mabel Eikleberry, of Havana, Ark.

J. D. Burton, 76, father of Evan Burton, White Kitchen Cafe operator here died at five o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Anna state hospital.

Mr. Burton was a lifelong resident of the Geff community and served two terms as a Republican supervisor from Bedford township.

Mr. Burton had been in declining health for several years, suffering from infirmities incident to his advanced age. He had been at the hospital about a month and prior to that he had been at the Mt. Carmel nursing home for a short time.

Funeral services will be at two p.m. Wednesday from the Pleasant Grove Christian church. The body has been taken to the DeSelms Funeral Home at Cisne. Mr. Burton was a lifelong farmer but for several years during the early part of his adult years he was a lightning rod salesman in Wayne County.

He was born March 15th, 1879, near Geff, within a mile of the place where he and his wife lived for 55 years. His parents were Frank and Hannah Burton.

Mr. Burton was a member of the Pleasant Grove Christian church and was always active in church affairs.

He was married to Elsie Harmon on May 18th, 1899 and seven children were born to this union.

Surviving are his widow; six sons, Evan, of Fairfield; Gerald, of Boyleston; Frank, of Geff, and Ray, Loren and Quinton, of Akron, Ohio, and one daughter, Mrs. Ford [Thelma] Harris, of Boyleston; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Barringer, of Geff, and Mrs. Mabel Eikleberry, of Havana, Ark., and two brothers, Albert H. Burton, of Middleton; and George Burton of Cisne. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.
