Bette graduated from Grand Haven High School, class of 1945. She attended Davenport Business College. She was employed by Spiegel Catalog and eventually retired from Ermanco as a buyer. She was a longtime, faithful member of the United Methodist Church of the Dunes, where she sang in the choir and was an active member of the United Methodist Women. Bette was an avid reader and enjoyed being a member of her neighborhood book club in Spring Lake. She was an exceptional cook, especially the family favorite-Sunday spaghetti dinner, talented knitter, and enjoyed fishing. She was a strong supporter of her family and will always be remembered as "Grandma Bubble". Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will always treasure her love, care, and her model of independence she instilled in them. But most of all Ben and Bette taught their children and grandchildren, the importance of living a life of Christian faith.
Bette is survived by three children: Michelle DeVito of Grand Haven, Bernard (Margaret) DeVito III of Grand Rapids, and John (Becky) DeVito of Saranac; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Robert (Tina) Lyon; sister, Peggy (George) Bolles; sisters-in-law, Ann Pesata, Phyllis DeVito; brother-in-law, Vincent DeVito; numerous nieces and nephews; former son-in-law, Rick (Sue) Ulmer.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Christian Haven Home and their exceptional staff who lovingly cared for Bette during her stay there. Also, a special thank you to Great Lakes Caring Hospice for their care and support during her end-of-life journey.
In keeping with Bette's wishes, there will be no public services. Interment will take place in Lakeshore Cemetery.
