Bob was born in South Charleston, WV on July 25, 1945 to Ernest P. and Macel Kinder Bennett. Bob attended WV Wesleyan College and Morris Harvey College. He also served in the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Randolph and was a member of the American Legion, Post 39. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Alicia. Bob moved to DC in 1978, and Old Town Alexandria was Bob's true home. As a restaurant owner and bartender, he was known for his strong pours and great stories. But even more, Bob was revered for his hospitality. A loyal crew of friends followed him from Alice's Restaurant, Cates, The Warehouse, Landini Brothers, and eventually, Bugsby's, where they sought him out for a smile, for a beer, and for a respite where they knew they would always be welcomed. Bob's enduring legacy remains in his daughters' shared love of music and reading, and wry sense of humor. In his last years, he shared both through posts on FB. In his last post, a link to "Gentle on My Mind," by Glenn Campbell, Bob reminds all who loved him that he will forever be, "wavin' from the back roads by the rivers of my memories/Ever smilin', ever gentle on my mind."
