Son of Judge Henry Montford and Laura Amanda (Cake) Vories. Married Julia Eugenia Merrell on 08 July 1879 in Leavenworth, Leavenworth, KS in a double ring ceremony with her sister, Flora Evelyn Merrell who married George Bennett Paine of Cleveland, OH. John and Julia were the parents of William Merrell Vories (1880-1964) and John Vories Jr., (1882-1958). Per newspaper articles, the remains of John Sr., Julia and William and his wife, Maki Hitotsuyanagi, were inurned in Japan.
