Ethel Marie Becker was born on May 21, 1929, the daughter of Inez and John Becker at the Carrington Hospital. She attended school at Sykeston, graduating high school in three years. She attended the College of St. Benedict for one year.
On June 15, 1949, Ethel was united in marriage to Eddie Wesley Weippert at St. Elizabeth's Church in Sykeston, ND. They farmed and milked cows near Sykeston for 39 years. In 1988, they moved to Carrington.
Ethel had many hobbies (crafts, baking, and sewing) including crocheting as witnessed by her gifts of afghans, tablecloths, and doilies for all whom she loved. Ethel had a very competitive spirit. She loved playing games, especially cards. When asked in her final days what her favorite card game was, she said "All of them!" Ethel was an extremely hard worker. She seamlessly managed to raise seven children while maintaining her home and cooking meals for family and hired workers. Ethel worked at Golden Acres Manor as a nurses aide for 13 years. Ethel somehow achieved the perfect work-life balance that many strive for and provided a wonderful upbringing for her large family.
Ethel and Eddie loved to travel with family and friends. Their travels included all fifty states plus Europe, Mexico, Canada, and the Holy Land. Ethel especially loved going on cruises with her family and treated her entire family to an Alaskan cruise in 2017.
Ethel was a member of the St. Elizabeth and Sacred Heart Altar Societies and was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church.
Ethel is survived by five sons, Don (Linda Geba, fiancé) of Bradenton, FL; Dennis (Bonnie) of Watertown, SD; Danny (Julie) and Doug of Garden City, KS; Dallas (Amy) of Hutchinson, KS; two daughters, Debora (Mark) Miller of Heaton, ND; DeeAnn (Brad) Krugler of Moorhead, MN; 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; special friend, Gene Summers of Carrington, ND; one sister, Patty (Tony) Bachmeier of Carrington, ND; one brother, John (Millie) Becker of Bremerton, WA.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie, infant son Dean Michael, grandson Carl Weippert, her parents, and sisters Delores and Carol.
