DIES; WAS LONG ILL
He helped establish Awning Sail Making
and Ship Stores Busines Here.
Frank S. McLellan, who had been
in failing health as the result of a heart condition,
for some years, died at his home on Vaughan
Avenue (Newport) Monday evening.
He was born in Booth Bay Harbor, Maine,
on January 10, 1868, son of William Edgar
and Sarah McLellan.
Mr. McLellan came to this city 39 years ago.
And with the late Frank H. Heald,
they established an awning business which
expanded into sail making for both large and
small yachts.
They also operated a hardware and
ship chandlery store in 1925; the business
was moved to Thames Street and
Narragansett Avenue, where it continued
until Mr. Heald's death.
Mr. McLellan then shifted it's business to Earl Avenue
(still Newport).
Mr. McLellan, a thirty-second degree Mason,
belonging to St. Paul's Lodge,
Washington Commentary and other branches
of the order. A member of the Newport
Yacht Club for many years, he served as its
Commandant for several years.
He was also a member of the Newport
Lodge of Elks and St. Paul's Methodist Church.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Emma McLellan,
he leaved two daughters, and
three grand-children.
