With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Jeanne Shimek. Jeanne was reunited with our dad Hank, the love of her life, on August 10, 2023. She passed away peacefully at the age of 82, with her family at her side at St. Vincent's Hospital Green Bay. She was born February 27, 1941 to Alvin and Margaret (McCulley) Wallander. She was a 1959 graduate of Reedsville High School. Jeanne married Hank on July 2, 1960 and together raised five wonderful children.

They spent many years together, often sharing stories on the porch at 311 Mill Street in Reedsville. Having children, she was a stay-at-home Mom until her youngest started school. She then joined Hank in running the Reedsville Sportsmen Club for many years. The Friday fish fry's were one of the best in Manitowoc County. She also worked at Dales United Foods in Reedsville, often starting at 5 in the morning to make the best jelly-filled doughnuts. She then worked for the Reedsville Public School System as a cook and a custodian. We joked she took those jobs to keep an eye on her kids. She was an incredible Grandma to four wonderful grandchildren.

Jeanne enjoyed playing bingo at the Manitowoc Rehabilitation Center, where she was a resident for over 7 years. Over the time of her stay, she probably won over $ 1.5 million bingo bucks! While there, Jeanne enjoyed watching the Milwaukee Brewers on TV or listening to the game on the radio. She was a big fan of The Price is Right and solved countless puzzles while watching Wheel of Fortune. Mom finished many, many word searches, often finishing a book in a week. While getting together with family, she enjoyed beating her children & grandchildren in the game of 31, while making her grandchildren laugh when she laid down her 31 AFTER the round. Jeanne was a loving wife, caring mother and incredible grandmother.

She will be sadly missed by her four children: John (Linda) Shimek, De Pere; Mark (Kay) Shimek, Reedsville; Mary Shimek, Green Bay, and Susie (Dan) Griepentrog, Cato. And her four grandchildren: Peter (Jenna) of Sun Prairie, Hannah (Vinnie) Basile, Oconto and Nate and Shane "Henry" Griepentrog, Cato. Additional survivors include: Sister Margaret Ann, Jerome (Karen) Wallander, Jack Wallander, Dorothy (Wayne) Dirkman, Eve (Richard) Engelbrecht, Donna (Richard) Quinn and Barbara Wallander. Surviving sisters-in-laws and brothers in laws include: Jane Wallander, Luella Wallander, John Jacobs, Paul Braun and Claire Shimek.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Hank, daughter: Ann Shimek, father-in-law and mother-in-law: Albert and Mary Shimek; Siblings: Mary Joan, Judy Jacobs, Bill, Jim, Chuck and Rick Wallander; in-laws: Al Haefke, Sylvia (Lester) Zipperer, Mabel (Harold) Bodart, Dorothy (Mike) O'Neil, Paul (Darlene) Shimek, Kathryn Braun, Milton (Edna) Shime, and Mary (Joel) Thompson.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clarks Mills. Live stream of her funeral can be viewed on the Pielhop Wieting Facebook Page. Cremation will then occur, and the burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Reedsville at a later date. Family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Online condolences may be sent to www.pielhopwieting.com A memorial video link is posted on the website underneath Jeanne's obituary. The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at the Manitowoc Health Care Center. For the past 7 years, Cozy Corner was her home, and they treated her with compassion and care. They would also like to thank the staff on the 6th floor of St. Vincent Hospital for their care during her last days.
