David Lucas Yates Mt. Pleasant - David Lucas Yates, 75, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, beloved husband of Meredith West Yates, entered into eternal rest Sunday, July 25, 2021. David was born May 8, 1946, in Awendaw, SC, and was the son of the late Mary "Mamie" Dean Yates Crawford and stepfather the late Samuel Levi Crawford. He was the owner/president of Yates Constructors, Inc., of North Charleston. A 1965 graduate of Moultrie High School, David attended Kilgore College, Kilgore, TX, and was a veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserves, serving on the DD707 Destroyer. His athletic career began with tennis and he was 1st Runner Up to State Champion in 1960. As a member of the MHS Football Team, he was named 1962 and 1963 Best Blocker and 1964 Most Valuable Player. An avid outdoorsman, he was a golf and tennis enthusiast and a member of the Southern Kingfish Association, where he, along with son, Dave, won several kingfish tournaments. He was better known for his prowess as a trout fisherman. David enjoyed traveling, but especially cherished time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 53 years; two sons, David "Dave" Chandler Yates and Jeffrey "Jeff" Lucas Yates, both of Mt. Pleasant; granddaughters, Jordan Riley Yates and Strom Chandler Yates-Walker; grandson, Tyler Lucas Yates; a brother, Allen T. Yates (Jennifer) of Conway; and two sisters, Rhoda Yates Massey of Goose Creek and Ida Yates Draper of North Charleston. He is preceded in death by his brother, Alfred Yates of Jamestown.
