David Stuck Landis was my paternal great-grandfather. He died before I was born. But I do remember my grandfather, Jesse Harvey Landis, saying his father had served as sheriff in Clay Center, Kansas. From there the family eventually moved to Neosho, Missouri where the boys and their father built their house themselves and had a farm. The road their home and farm were on was named "Landis Road" after them. Their address was 552 Landis Road, Neosho, Missouri. There was also family history that David had descended from one of the three Landis brothers, Benjamin, Samuel, and Jacob, who had emigrated to the United States from Switzerland. Before that, the Landises had lived in Germany. The Landises had been persecuted in Germany because of their religion, fled to Switzerland, and then to the United States of America. Also, David, as a young man, split from his religion, either Amish or Mennonite. Supposedly, there is another daughter, Charlotte Landis, but I can't find her grave in Neosho along with her other siblings. Ancestry.com has a family picture from Betty Landis dated 1908 that shows Charlotte. I don't know when she died, but it was probably before I was born (in February, 1947). (David Stuck Landis to Jesse Harvey Landis to Bruce R. Landis to Juanita C. (Landis) Kandi (me))
