Margaret L. Shields
Margaret L. Shields, 90 formerly from Marion, died July 23, 2021, Friday morning at 524 Orchard Ave, Chatham, IL. She was under HSHS St. Johns home hospice for the last two and one-half months.

Born September 3, 1930 in Espyville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Philip and Flora (Schlecht) Rush. She was a switchboard operator at the Harding Hotel, a waitress at Whitey's Tavern, and former owner of the Home Restaurant.

She moved to Grove City in 1963, and was a nurses-aide at St. Rita's Nursing Home and manager of the Starlight Lounge in Grove City. She returned to Marion in 1990. She was active in VFW Post 7201 Ladies Auxiliary, served as Aux. Treasurer and later as Aux. President. She was a Life Member of Post 7201. One of her most cherished memories was a trip to the Holy Land in 1973. Also, she enjoyed making placemat sets on a loom and giving to friends. Margaret painted several paint by number pictures of the Last Supper to give to her family.

She moved to Chatham, IL in September of 2018. She spent her days being entertained by her great grandsons, Luke and Eli, and her faithful shared companion Bandit. She will be missed by family and friends

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands Warren E Pletcher and Harold G Shields, 4 brothers, Paul Eugene Rush, Ralph Rush, Raymond Rush, and William Rush, 3 sisters, Ruthella Diehl, Thelma Rush, and Freda Carpenter, and son-in-law Richard Greene.

She is survived by two daughters, Beverly J Miller of Marion and Connie Greene of Chatham, IL., 2 grandsons and 4 great- grandsons: Michael (Kristine) Greene of Chatham, IL.; their sons Luke and Elijah, and Philip Shields of Ohio; his sons Draven and Conner and several nieces and nephews.

The service will be conducted on Monday, August 2, 2021 at 12pm at Boyd Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 11am to 12pm on Monday, August 2, 2021. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to HSHS St Johns Foundation, 800 E. Carpenter St., Springfield, IL 62769.
