Donald Thomas Duff, 91, went to be with the Lord on November 1, 2007.

He resided at the Elant Residence of Goshen, N.Y. He formerly resided Aurora Colo., Crestone Colo., Harrington Park N.J., Westwood N.J., Hillsdale N.J., River Vale N.J.

A public school administrator for 35 years, he retired in 1975 as the first Principal of Northern Valley Regional H.S. at Old Tappan N.J.

He was born March 6, 1916, to Alexander McGill Duff, Md., and Edna Earle Duff (nee Carr) in Republic, Fayette Co. Pa.

Mr. Duff was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Marie (nee Olsen) on July 8, 1998.

He is survived by five children: Donald E. Duff and wife, Patricia of Tenafly N.J., Ruth Anne Chamberlain and husband, Dennis of Rodgersville, Tenn., Douglas I. Duff of Brewster, Ma., Keith H. Duff and his wife, Carla of Parsippany N.J., and David A. Duff and his wife, Sarah of Beacon N.Y.; nine grandchildren: Darlene, David, Jamie, Karin, Kevin, Janel, Ian, Becky, and Thomas; and two great-grandchildren: Claudia and Allison.

He received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from New York University, and did further graduate work at Columbia University, Rutgers University and New York University.

During his years of further education and teaching, he enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve (1942 as an Ensign) and actively served during World War II on a sub chaser in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He later retired from the USNR as a Lieutenant.

His teaching career began in his hometown of Republic Pa., (1937-38), later taking him to a Naval Post High School in Quantico, Va., (1939-41), Junior High School in Westwood N.J., where he became the Guidance Director (1941-54), Principal of Demarest N.J. Elementary School (1954-56), as Vice-Principal and then Principal, helped open the Northern Valley Regional H.S. district in Demarest N.J., (1955-62), and then, as Principal, opened the new NVRHS in Old Tappan (1962-75). In retirement he served as President of the Board of Directors, Baca Grande Development Corp. in Crestone Colo.,(1977-1993).

He served as President of: Westwood N.J. Teachers Assoc., Bergen County Guidance Assoc., Bergen County Secondary Schools Principals Assoc., N.J. Guidance Assoc., and the N.J. Secondary Schools Assoc. He is a Life Member of the NEA and the National Assoc. of Secondary School Principals.

The family requests that anyone wishing to make a donation in remembrance of Mr. Duff send it to the Guidance Dept. of Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan, N.J. and apply it towards the Donald T. Duff Scholarship of the Chivalis Chapter of the National Honor Society.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to THOMAS F. FLYNN OF FLYNN FUNERAL & CREMATION MEMORIAL CENTERS, 139 Stage Road, Monroe, New York, 10950. Burial will be private at the Beverly National Cemetery, Edgewater Park, N.J.
