Mildred Sue Gardner, 94, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2021 in Carmel, Indiana. Mildred was born to the late Lester W. and Bertha E. (Gamble) Routt in Vincennes, Indiana on October 2, 1926.
Mildred received her Bachelor and Master degrees from DePauw University. Mildred worked as an elementary music teacher for several years before becoming the chief financial officer at Lester W. Routt Associates Architects and Engineers in Vincennes, Indiana. She played the organ and directed choirs at several churches over her lifetime. She was a member of the music honor society, Mu Phi Epsilon. Mildred was married to Charles Gardner, who preceded her in death in 1974. She moved to Zionsville, Indiana in 1989. She was a member of Zionsville Christian Church.
Mildred had a heart for volunteer work. She had many friends and she loved cats.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Leslie Gardner, "adopted" daughter, Mary Grant, niece, Jane Riker, cousins, Mardel Miller, Judy Palmer, George Routt, Ward Routt, Brad Miller, and Cathy Miller, as well as several great nieces and great nephews, and three cats, Faith, Hope, and Victoria.
A graveside service will be held at 1 P.M. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Vincennes, Indiana.
