Martha Bonner was born July 4, 1924 in Ozan, Arkansas to Andy and Nettie (Flowers) Pickens, and departed this life on November 18, 2007 at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago, Indiana. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Bonner Sr.; son, John Bonner Jr.; daughter, Brenda Peoples-Williams; brothers, Andy Jr., O'Hara, Leroy, and R.B. Pickens; sisters, Dorothy Williamson, Florene Hill, Florida Woods, and Augusta Williamson; grandsons, Reginald Smith and Wyatt Mitchell. She is survived by: 5 sons, Ralph (Regina) Smith, Clay, Perrie K. (Daniece), Kenneth (Senovia) and Robert Bonner all of Gary, IN; 4 daughters, Ester Janette Smith-Cobb & Joan (Alvin) Dennis of New Port Richey, FL, Gail (L.C.) Mangum of Gary, IN, and Cherie (Stanley) Butts of Holiday, FL; 1 sister, Easter Golston of Kansas City, MO; 25 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Martha was Valedictorian of her graduating class of 1942 at Lincoln High School, Washington, Arkansas. She was a faithful member of Sweet Home M.B. Church until her health began to fail. She was also a foster parent for 25 years. Visitation is Friday, November 23, 2007 from 12 to 8:00 p.m. at Sweet Home M.B. Church, 3634 West 11th Avenue, Gary, IN. Funeral services Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Sweet Home M.B. Church, Rev. Translee Yanders, eulogy. Interment at Fern Oaks Cemetery. Professional services rendered by: Guy & Allen Funeral Directors, Inc.
