Funeral services for Mr. Grady G. Abel, 85, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 1997, from the Sulphur Spring Baptist Church. Rev. David Sartin and Rev. Chester Estes officiated. Interment was made in the Sulphur Springs Baptist Cemetery, in Conehatta, MS. Mr. Abel passed away on Monday, April 14, 1997, at Scott Regional Hospital, following a short illness. Mr. Abel had been a resident of Scott County, MS for over 50 years and in the Sulphur Springs community for the past 48 years. After retiring as a construction worker for G.B. (Red) Beard Construction. Mr. Abel took up the hobby of gardening, which he loved dearly.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Abel of Sebastopol, MS; three daughters, Inez Thrash of Sebastopol, MS, Barbara Allison of Sebastopol, MS, and Elsie Posey of Lake, MS; three sons, Bill Abel of Sebastopol, MS, Jesse Abel of Sebastopol, MS, and Clayton Abel of Homewood, MS;
one sister, Mae Chambless of Poulan, GA; twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sons, J.R. Abel, Jerry Abel, and Edward Abel.

Pallbearers were Ricky Abel, Larry Thrash, David Abel, Myran Abel, Donnie Posey, and Michael Abel. Honorary pallbearers were Joey Abel and Danny Thrash. Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest was in charge of arrangements.
